Lieu historique national des Fortifications-de-Québec

The Fortifications of Quebec are the only walls that have remained from the fortifications made by the British after they took Quebec from the French during the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759. The wall encloses the Old Quebec, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. The fortifications have four surviving gates located in Porte St. Jean, Porte St. Louis, Porte Prescott and Porte Kent and they were declared a National Historic Site of Canada in 1948.

Visiting the fortifications in Quebec will let visitors in to the military history of the city as it is the only fortified city north of Mexico. Guided tours are being offered along the walls and will educate tourists on the history of Quebec that spans three centuries. The tour will start from the Frontenac kiosk in Dufferin Terrace and can be continued to the Artillery Park. It popular tourist attraction is managed and operated by Parks Canada.
