The largest outdoor family amusement park in Western Canada is Calaway Park. The park is located 10 km west of Calgary in Springbank, Alberta. It was called the Flintstone Fun Park before it opened in 1982.
Although the park operates on May to mid-October weekends and daily on July and August, it is still able to attract more than half a million visitors with nearly 100,000 seasons pass holders. About fifty percent of sales happen during Christmas when the park would go through extensive marketing to invite households.
Calaway Park has a total of 100 acres of operating area with a total of 22 food stalls, 27 games and 33 rides, including two roller coasters and three water rides. The park features a variety of rides ranging from soft playgrounds to thrill rides with the biggest attractions being The Vortex, a corkscrew roller coaster, and the Dream Machine, a 56-passenger swing ride. This family-friendly destination has been considered as amongst the safest amusement parks in North America.
