Royal Tyrrell Museum
Established in 1985, the Royal Tyrell Museum is a paleontological museum located in Midland Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada. The museum was named after Joseph Burr Tyrell, a geologist who accidentally discovered a dinosaur fossil in the Red Deer River valley back in 1884.
The museum encompasses an area of around 11,200 square meters and is home to several chronological galleries that showcase the Earth’s 3.9 billion years of history. Among its most popular exhibit is the Dinosaur Hall, which features more than 40 mounted dinosaur skeletons including those of a Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Albertosaurus and many more.
Aside from the galleries and exhibits, the museum also has a “Preparation Lab” where visitors can watch technicians prepare fossils for exhibition and research. The museum also offers self-guided and guided tours in the bad lands as well as programs for simulated fossil digs and castings and school programs and summer camps for kids.
