The capital of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan is Regina, home to nearly 200,000 residents and the second largest city in the province after Saskatoon. Regina is originally a treeless flat plain that only featured the Wascana Creek that was dammed to create a lake. The city was named Wascana but later renamed in honor of Queen Victoria, Victoria Regina, whose daughter was the wife of the then Governor General of Canada.
