The Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada borders the Glacier National Park in Montana. Canada’s fourth national park was established as a national park in 1895, a biosphere reserve in 1979, and finally became a world heritage site in 1995. The park is open all throughout the year but is busiest in July and August.
The 505 square kilometer park was dedicated to Sir Charles Arthur Mander and showcases the Waterton lakes and its diverse ecosystem. Among the animals that have made the park their home include sheep, foxes, deer, cougars, goats, moose, elks, bears, coyotes, and many more. Waterton Lakes National Park also offers visitors scenic trails, among the most popular of which is the Crypt Lake Trail. The park is currently managed by Parks Canada and receives almost half a million visitors each year. It was also been featured in a short film in 2011 called National Parks Project.
